Frequently Asked Questions

& Dress Code

I am planning to come! When should I book?

We are so excited you can join us!! We strongly recommend booking your house or hotel, golf cart, and flight as soon as possible. It’s a small island so there’s a limited supply of places to stay and golf carts - to be sure you have a great option, book soon! There are also limited flights daily. You can use Google Flight to set up an alert for price changes for your desired dates if you are flying American or Delta.

What should I pack?

Bring your bathing suits, sunscreen, and plenty of sun protection for days in the sun! It can get breezy or cool in the evenings, so a light sweater or jacket is a good idea.

Please see our Dress Code section (below) for what to wear to each event. MM is going to be adding visuals soon!

Our wedding and rehearsal dinner are will be beachy formal - think long flowy dresses and pants and button downs and a sports coat for wedding day! (See more below!)

Are children invited?

Children are not invited to any of the events throughout the wedding week. Thank you for understanding!

Do I need a passport?

Yes, a valid passport is required to enter the Bahamas. Be sure your passport does not expire within six months of your travel dates to avoid any issues at customs.

Am I invited to the rehearsal dinner?

Yes! Everyone is invited to the rehearsal dinner as well as all other events listed on the itinerary. We are so excited to celebrate with you!

What’s the deal with breakfast at Elbow Reef every day?

Get excited—private chef extraordinaire Bri is coming all the way from Cordele, GA to celebrate with us all week! She’ll be preparing an incredible breakfast spread each morning, along with appetizers and lunch on select days as noted in the Itinerary.

Do I need to rent a boat for the boat days?

Nope! You are welcome to rent a boat for you and your group, but if not, we’ll have boats ready for our daily adventures (as long as you're able to arrive early). Please let us know your arrival day in the RSVP so we can plan accordingly.

Can I fly in on Wednesday and still make it to the boat day?

Most likely not. Boats will depart promptly at 10:30 AM. If you’re considering flying in that morning, please call Mary Margaret or Cody so we can talk through options. Don’t worry—you’ll still have a great day exploring Elbow Cay, and we can’t wait to see you at that evening’s event.

When do you recommend I fly home?

If your schedule allows you to stay until Monday, we definitely recommend it! The Nippers Sunday Funday Beach Party on Guana Cay is famous in the Abacos and always a blast—and flights tend to be cheaper on Monday, too!

What do I need for customs?

When you arrive in the Bahamas, you’ll fill out a customs form. It will ask for the address of your accommodations—just list the name of your rental house or hotel, as Elbow Cay does not use formal addresses.

How do I get to Elbow Cay?

You’ll fly into Marsh Harbour (MHH) – Leonard Thompson International Airport. Taxis will be waiting outside to take you to the ferry dock. For more info, check the Travel page.
Tip: You can stop at a grocery or liquor store along the way if you’d like!

Should I bring cash?

Yes. While most restaurants and shops accept Visa or MasterCard (American Express is rarely accepted), taxis, ferries, and tips are typically cash only. There are no ATMs on Elbow Cay, so bring what you’ll need ahead of time.
U.S. dollars and Bahamian dollars are accepted interchangeably.

Which ferry should I take?

There are two ferry companies: Albury’s Ferry and G&L Ferry, both leaving from the same dock and with similar schedules. The ride is around 20 minutes—get off at the Post Office Dock in Hope Town.
Find schedules and contact info on our Travel page.

Do I need a golf cart?

Yes! A golf cart is the best way to get around. We strongly recommend reserving one in advance, as availability is limited.
Check out the Travel page for rental company suggestions.

What if I need medical care?

Medical care is very limited on Elbow Cay, and the closest hospital is a plane ride away. Please pack any medications you may need in your carry-on bag.
